Pitch Deck Outline

Introducing the Problem

  • Begin by outlining the context and history behind the issue
  • Go over the event in detail to show the significance and reason for outrage
  • Bring it in to current geopolitical terms and state the modern issues
  • State the min research problem
  • Offer the thesis solution
I really want to go into detail on why the Genocide is called a "Genocide" and not something else. This is because the main counterpoint to the Problem (which I will explain in later slides) is the significance in the broader sense of the events at the time. This section of slides will be my chance to portray why people feel so strongly about this issue, and why people who don't care about anything should care about this.

Present the Research

  • Offer supplement research to back research question
  • Go over governmental and geopolitics sentiments
  • State generative research into similar types of PSA campaigns
  • Site succesful PSA campaigns for reference and how the Project will be structured
Portraying the research will give me the opportunity to explain the significance and go into further detail from the beginning slide points. I will get to portray the various types of research conducted and highlight existing campaigns and movements centered around my idea.

Experts DME & SME

  • Present the two mentors and go in to detail on why they are experts of their respected fields
  • Go over questionnaire and answers for each of them
  • Explain how I intend to incorporate their information into the project
My experts are meant to strengthen my Research Problem as well as my means of accomplishing the problem. Their expertise will be highlighted and strengthening their significance.

Timeline

  • Project how I intend to plan out the rest of the project by adding deliverables and dates to which I plan on completing them

Research Summary

I wanted to get a base of knowledge down before I began to see in to current events. To start I researched the events and causes leading up to the genocide, the key factions taking part, and the initial aftermath and reaction while it was taking place.

Summary

Events leading up to the genocide had to do primary with the implosion of the Ottoman Empire as a result of World War 1. The event was in part due to the Ottoman Turks using their Armenian population as a scape goat for taking up arms on the eastern front of the war. several population exchanges took place before the official start of the genocide occurred.

For the next part the research, I want to study Turkeys reasoning and argument for why they deny the genocide. They have a fiery passion in denying the events and their current government actively encourages denial. This point Brings it back to my Research question of why the specific US government officially doesn't recognize it, and to see if there is any relating clause between the US and Turkey.

Summary

Upon reviewing the overall research, The main reason for the turkish governments refusal is due to definitions and wording. They seem to not deny that horrible things took place but cite the fact that horrible things happened to their side as well, due to the War. The main reason I could find the US not officially recognizing it is mainly due to the pro US- Turkey relationship the Government wants to keep in place, as not to offend a very key ally in the middle east. 48 out of the 50 US states have effectively recognized the event, yet an official recognition by the federal government has not yet been given.

The Next thing I wanted to research was effective geopolitical PSA campaigns, and what the best way to effectively send out information. I wanted to see how i could implement Motion design elements while still keeping consist with a branding and PSA driven campaign.

Summary

I was able to find examples of PSAs that well grounded in motion and narrative. upon reviewing my research I found several trips into making a successful PSA campaign as well. One thing I noticed while researching was a good PSA campaign is driven on multi digital platform. This strengthens my original research question as I hope to use implementations of branding as well as motion while creating this Project.

Digital Media Expert

Nick Schultz - Motion Designer Producer

Nick is currently the lead Motion designer working for the Denver Broncos. While managing game day scoreboard graphics, Nick also manages the Motion Graphics for all Broncos related video and cinematography. He would be a valuable Digital media expert not only because he has skill in motion graphics, but also skill in portraying narratives through video.

I plan on meeting with Nick Friday November 1st at 3:30 pm. When we meet I plan on asking him several questions pertaining to my research question.

  • Have you ever worked on a PSA before
  • What tips do you have for expressing narrative through motion
  • What sites or people to you view for inspiration
  • What visual characteristics keep a viewer interested
  • What type of transitions help a piece flow well
  • What is the best way to start

Examples of what I hope to achieve steam around other PSA's and certain infographic related mini documentaries.

I plan on meeting with Elenie Sunday November 3rd. When we meet I plan on asking her several questions pertaining to my research question.

  • Why the Genocide happened
  • Why there is such tension in to recognizing it
  • The effects and aftermath of the genocide
  • Impact of todays society- especially in the US
  • Why the US flirts fails to officially recognize it
  • If any similar "recognition" moments have occurred

Research Question

"How can motion and branding raise awareness of the Armenian Genocide enough to garner official recognition by the US government?"

DEFINING THE PROBLEM

If I plan to go the PSA about the Armenian Genocide route, my problems would consist of questions like:

-Why is it a problem?
-What are the reasonings for the problem?
-Why should you care about it?
-What is the goal of this project?

Defining the goal first and foremost was the biggest problem I had to think about. Would the goal focus around a hypothetical Full on apology and recognition of the Genocide by the turkish government? Or would it be a localized more realistic goal of convincing local representatives to pull for the Official recognition by the US? The issue, while captivating to more US cities that hold Arminian immigrants, such as LA and Boston, might not be as emotionally invested to people in the middle of the country with little exposure to Arminians or the issue as a whole.

Preliminary Research

I am still unsure on what I want to tackle for my senior thesis. my ideas have boiled down to making some-sort of motion piece explaining a problem with current events, and a psa of some sort explaining the possible solution.

Some ideas I have thought about tackling include,

Exploring the Political division of the US and the increasing polarization and tribalism between political parties.

We can all agree that political tension has not been this high in this country for many years. the question of why that is and who is to blame is fascinating and I feel like I can explore many possible answers through  motion piece or PSA

Go along with the Macedonia type of project

In one of our motion classes, I tackled the issue of the Macedonian naming controversy. This project involved looking into history, which I enjoyed, and merging it in with a political crisis. While I don't think I will make another Macedonia PSA, another current issue plaging the world that doesn't get any media attention might be cool to explore, such as the Turkish refusal of recognizing the Armenian Genocide, or Christian persecution in the middle east.

Some Sort of Sports related Motion Piece.

As a result of my internship with the NFL, I became very interested in doing something in terms of sports related graphics. This might include a season package or new season look for home game interactions.
